My weekend away

Just had the best folky weekend ever at Darlington. Held in the Arts centre in the middle of Darlington it is a fabulous weekend of workshops, dancing, sessions, eating, drinking, catching up with old friends and making new ones. The centre has recently been refurbished and is a great venue.

I did an accordion workshop with Karen Tweed – doing two of her own compositions which were part of a suite of music for accordion and string quartet. Also a dance workshop with Kerry Fletcher and Sam Pirt – both playing and dancing – sometimes at the same time! The dances ranged from a schottische, through an Italian polka and ending with Appalachian clog – something for everyone!

The ceilidh on the Saturday night was amazing – a floor full of dancers which is always lovely – and the whole room decked out with Halloween decorations – glowing pumpkins, ghoulies and ghosties. Some new dances too – must have lost pounds in weight – I wish!

So for all you closet musicians out there – if you fancy a really friendly musical weekend, think about giving it a try next year, end of October...Annie
