NATHAN MILSTEIN PLAYS J S BACH'S Partita No 3 in E

I think this is the most perfect playing.

Sometimes I think that technical perfection loses the musical message, but this playing is technically impeccable, yet concedes nothing in the way of musicality - I find it one of the most emotional interpretations of Bach, indeed it is some of the most emotional playing I know.

Milstein was one of the old school of violinists, a pupil of Auer, and Ysaye, he stood on the shoulders of giants. He was known to spend hours experimenting with fingerings and bowings to get the cleanest articulation of notes he could.
